Hi Everyone! Today, there’s a heavier dose of equestrian than usual (my favourite subject!), with updates on a schooling show and C Certificate that Mackenzie and I attended, and a new recipe I developed! Rice Pudding anyone? I hope you love it!
I had my C Certificate assessment quite recently, and here’s how it went: We arrived in thick fog and 4 degrees celsius, and I think everyone but Mackenzie was cold! (she doesn’t have a very thick winter coat though.) We warmed up chatting to the other girls, and then groundwork was first up, and our ‘park’ (essentially standing still), and back up and halt was good, though I haven’t taught her to lengthen her strides yet, it was all in all good. Then Riders tool kit, e.g. pressure – release, which is like asking the horse, then asking firmer, then when they do it, release pressure. And reward training, like teaching them to do something with treats, et cetera. Next was showjumping, which is not our specialty, but the course walk went well, though the double looked to have awkward striding. (Course walk is seeing how you will ride the course and how many strides there are between jumps.) We warmed up quite nicely, though we rushed a little in the canter and the course… was a bit messy and we had to attempt the double (two jumps set 1 – 2 strides apart) three times – Mackenzie ran out twice – but we passed because they said I didn’t get angry or punish Mackenzie. Flatwork went good, especially the stirrupless riding, one handed and the circles. We were definitely the least experienced pair, but I was happy with how it went. Everyone passed, which was so exciting!
Now, for the best rice pudding you have ever had! (Other people’s words, not mine!) The one on the cover! Good enough for breakfast, yet my family would eat it for dessert… It’s not traditional, but still so yum! It’s vaguely based on the one the Swedish eat on Christmas eve. Traditionally, they put one blanched almond in at the end, and whoever gets it wins a pink marzipan pig! I got the idea from a recipe by delicious. I had a schooling show (a more relaxed show for experience) the other day. There was dressage, best presented (neat, clean etc.) rider (self explanatory), mount (judged on the horse), led (leading the horse), and fancy dress. I running braided Mackenzie’s mane, Mum braided her tail, and we set off for best presented. We had four in our group, and placed third. Another third in the rider, second in mount, third in led, second in dressage, and fancy dress… well, everyone got a ribbon and a cap for that! We were Alice in Wonderland – Mackenzie was Alice, I was the Queen of Hearts, Mum was the Mad Hatter, and my little brother was the Cheshire Cat! It was a lot of fun! 😄
