A blast from the past – Guinea pigs and Kittens! And a beautiful painting!

Hello everyone! As I am writing from the dining table, it is rainy and cloudy here, but very cheerful! Today’s post includes a trip down memory lane – to meet the five (or six) Guinea pigs that I owned a couple of years ago that I went on to successfully rehome. Milson, Honey, Bloss, Sniff, Mouse and Annie – and our cat Tiger Lily’s kittens! (From a while ago.) And a lovely painted landscape!

Milson was an Albino Teddy. Teddy means his coat was curly. He was rescued as a pup, and I rescued him at about the age of one. He wasn’t very cuddly, but he was lovely in his own way. Honey was the mama, she was tri-colour. She’s super sweet! I got given her. And Honey and Milson (Originally Millicent (Millie), until we discovered he was a boy) had a litter of four. Annie was the runt, she was sadly too weak to survive, but there were three healthy babies – a boy (Sniff), who looked just like Annie – an unusual brown grey with tan markings, and two girls, Bloss and Mouse, who were tri-colour with little mohawks. Though one day we found out Bloss was actually a boy, so I swapped their names around. Another day, I needed to catch Sniff, and he did not want to be caught. He turned, narrowed his little eyes and lunged at me. Guinea pig teeth are very sharp!! I forgave him after one week. And, I fondly remember that Bloss used to wheek at me when she saw me coming with fresh vegies. Milson sadly passed away, but the others are happily living in pairs – Bloss and Honey, and Sniff and Mouse. I’ll stop now before I give detailed description of their favourite foods. (Apple, broccoli leaves, lettuce, not zucchini, capsicum, watermelon etc etc….)😋🤎🖤🤍🧡

Tiger Lily, our ginger cat, had kittens two years ago. She gave us quite the scare going missing three days before she was due – she was stuck in the neighbour’s IBC tank of all places and we found her as their dog was barking strangely, leading us to investigate! Thank goodness!!! She had gone in there because it was full of leaves and she was looking for somewhere safe to have the kittens, so we had to tip the IBC upside down so she could fit out. We had been searching like crazy!!! Once a farm cat, always a farm cat. A few days later, I walked into the bedroom to discover our friendly farm cat had snuck inside and was about to have her kittens on my bed. Thankfully, there was no mess on my sheets! Mum quickly made her a bed inside, but she wouldn’t settle, so we took her outside and put her in a warm, blanketed kennel inside an old chicken coop. Under Mum’s watchful eye and comfort, she had three live kittens and two (tragic) still-borns. The reason for the still-borns was that one was unusually large, so had gotten stuck and Mum wasn’t able to save it. We named those two Cosmo and Blossom and gave them a nice burial. The other three were Amber, Peaches and Cream, and they grew up happily with their mother until they were rehomed. They were a rough and tumble bunch, and Tiger Lily did her job well, always running after them and was very protective, especially with a visiting dog! One swipe and the dog kept a respectful distance… they would tumble in the flower pots and chase bugs near the swings.🩷Then, as soon as possible, Tiger Lily got desexed!

Last year, I was gifted a gorgeous painting from my great grandmother. It’s an acrylic landscape of a farm with gum trees, paddocks, a creek, the mountains and a later added farmhouse. It was the first she ever painted, and I am very proud to own it. It sits pride of place on my bedroom wall. She does not give herself anywhere near enough credit, she certainly has natural artistic talent! She absolutely should definitely not throw any out. Here is a photo, though honestly, it really does not do it justice!!!💚

So beautiful!

That’s all from me! Have a fun week, everyone! Love, Amarylli🩵🐴
