Mackenzie’s new bestie and a sewed sleepover

Mackenzie’s new bestie and a sewed sleepover

Welcome back! This post is about a little buddy Mackenzie found (a wild one – can you guess?) Enjoy!!

One afternoon, Mum and I were fencing, when I noticed Mackenzie playing with something on the ridgeline. I went to investigate, and discovered that it was an echidna! We had seen it a couple of times before (and named it Boss), but not this close! Mackenzie thought it was the best toy ever. I watched as she lowered her head, lovingly sniffed it, nudged him, then threw her head up in outrage because it had ‘bit’ (accidentally spiked) her – how dare he?! Then she struck out at him (just as a warning, not to hurt it), and repeat! (Though, she only struck twice.) Boss just went about his business, occasionally curling up into a ball, but mostly digging for ants. It would be a bit dangerous if his quills had pierced Mackenzie’s nose though, so we had to get Boss out, but Mackenzie refused to leave and Boss was ignoring me trying to herd him. My brother had to run and grab a halter. (For Mackenzie, not Boss)😂 A few minutes later, Boss was safely on his way, and Mackenzie was unharmed (though perhaps disappointed that she didn’t get to keep her ‘toy’.) A few days later, when the cows and Mackenzie had swapped paddocks (each prefers the grass the other disfavors), I caught sight of two dark little lumps on the hill. Sure enough, Boss was back – with a friend! We named her Bess, and quietly observed them eating, along with the cows. A few days later, we got called down to the shed – I wasn’t sure what we’d find (hopefully not a snake!), but it was Bess! (We think.) She crawled along under the bench, then through a big old pipe, wandered around at the end of the shed, and crawled back under the bench. There were some digging sounds, and after a moment, she squeezed behind the old top load washing machine next to the wall. After realising she couldn’t get through, and of course couldn’t walk backwards (too many quills!), she proceeded to turn sideways and determinedly squish through.🤣 It was rather comical, and had us all in stitches. She then left via the back door and was off into the night. Why she didn’t just walk around?🤷🏼‍♀️But it was very funny, and we think she thought it was an obstacle course.😂 We tried to keep our distance the whole time though, and never tried to pat them as they are wild animals. Here are the photos! There will be more whenever they make another appearance!

Boss!
Bess! In her cobwebbed reality😅

Six or seven years ago, I got given book on sewing – Wee Wonderfuls. I chose something out of it, three dolls in a sleeping bag, and (a year and a half later) enlisted Mum’s help, then picked out some fabric. I helped Mum cut out the pattern, then we moved to a farm and forgot it for a while. We refound it last year, and decided to pick it back up. We cut out the fabric (again, it got lost in between moving), and Mum machine sewed them together while I stuffed buns and arms and hand sewed them up. I then turned the right way out and stuffed, then sewed the hair and arms on. Mum cut out the sleeping bag and sewed that up, and I embroidered the dolls faces. We were done! It was so satisfying seeing it all come together too. They are super cute, and even blue ribbon winning! Here are some photos!

All tied up with a bow!

That’s all for now, I hope this gave you a laugh! It’s all true – including what they say about how farm life is never boring! Have a fabulous day, Love, Amarylli🩵🐴
